The functions of my jewellery

Bruce Metcalf wrote an essay, "On The Nature of Jewelry," where he wrote about the functions of jewellery three of them being: redeemable wealth, an indicator of status and spiritual mediation.

Redeemable wealth and status is something I don't focus on when designing and manufacturing my jewellery. I don't think about the value of the piece in how much it can be sold for but to me, jewellery can always be an indicator of some sort of status, "mak[ing] the wearer different from his neighbors, or the same," as Bruce Metcalf wrote in his essay.

He also describes spiritual mediation as a "sacred symbols [that] are frequently made portable [..] summarizing the relation between God and person [...as well as] a constant reminder of one's faith." I think my jewellery is spiritual but not exactly in the way Bruce described it. Nature to me is proof of a higher power as there are systems that work perfectly in nature without human intervention but my organic jewellery is more about appreciating nature; like naturally occurring patterns and colour. The beauty and tranquillity of being surrounded by nature is calming and quietens the mind.
